The Wife Investment Portfolio

Do you believe in a saying that “Diamonds are girls best friend” and things like gold, precious stones, silver and other  precious things are her other good friends?

You maybe asking this – So what’s the sense of including this topic on my blog?

This evening after checking the price of GOLD in the Bloomberg, I was surprise that it was almost 1900USD per ounce.  I was thinking that most woman, especially the wife were so fond of collecting gold and other precious metals, that if you will consider this as part of an investment portfolio. They will going to beat the equity and bond portfolio of an expert fund manager.

Unless, the equity fund manager have an investment in a mining company that produces gold and other precious metal, they will never have a chance in beating the Wife Investment Portfolio. (Note that from year to date the world equity market plunges while, the GOLD prices sky rocketed.)

The “Wife Investment Portfolio” were not found in any investment books or strategy. It was merely a product of my “Investment Imagination”.

Congratulation to those who made an investment in GOLD last quarter,I guess they are already jumping with joy.

Wife Investment Portfolio? So there is a ” Husband Investment Portfolio too? LOL! Do you really think that Diamond is the girls best’s best friend? If she is a materialistic type of person. Yes! Diamond is just a material thing it will lost. Best friend will always be bestfriend.

In your “Wife Investment Porfolio” what’s the concept? collecting jewelries?gold necklace? You think in Wifes mind when they are craving/buying for that jewelries is “investment”? First that comes up in their mind is invsetment? No!I dont think so. It’s Fashion! another reason is so that if they need cash someday they can go to pawnshop to pawl (the reason which I hate most). Investment is that keeping it and someday you gained not like exchanging it to small amount of cash and someday you cant have it anymore. Buying jewelries and sell or pawl? Look like you are just fooling your self sorry but that’s true…

But for those who have gold in their chest still well… Good Job!
    and Congrats!

sir i just want to ask something about bonds, what interest rates are you pertaining ? I read your Blog about bonds, and also sir the difference between bonds and debentures ? Is it just the collateral ?

    • Hi Bryan,
Bonds are debt securities. If a corporation or government entity needs more cash to funds their projects or expansion, they have this option to issue bonds to different investors. Bonds have an attach coupon that pays interest (this is the part were investor can gain) quarterly, semi-annually or annually.

So bonds are not collateral, it is a debt obligation.

Normally, the size of the bonds (especially the corporate) goes to 100K minimum. For an individual or newbie investor this amount maybe too high but, if you really want to venture this kind of investment. A good start is thru Mutual Fund, and selects their Fixed Income or Bond Fund product.

Normally, initial investment in Mutual Fund is only 5K minimum. And an additional investment is only 1K minimum.

sir what if the company can’t pay it’s obligation to the bond holders ?

    • Default payment sometimes happen…
Make sure that you check the credit ratings of the company issuing the bonds… There is a credit ratings agency that check the financial capacity of the companies issuing the bonds… Most of the time an investment grade bonds has a low interest coupon (but the chance of default is somehow negligible, so it’s safe), but if you go for a high yielding bond the risk of default is somehow higher..
In other words, there is no such thing as free lunch in investment world. Know your risk appetite.
If you go for a safe investment the return is low, but going after a high yielding one is more risky.

    Sir Good day,

I have money and I want to invest. But I have no/limited information regarding investing here in the Philippines. How to check if you lost or you gain, or where to check the the status of your investment. When to cashout, etc. Do you have any books or online info regarding how to invest for newbies in the Philippines? I got some books but majority is investing in the US. I want to invest here in the Philippines and hopefully gain enough at the same time help our economy.

    • Hi Chester,
Before you jump into any investment, make sure to have an emergency fund, you have to assess your risk appetite and you should know your investment horizon.
I guess you have a plenty of homework to do before getting your feet wet in investing.

Anyway, if you really want to get started on investing and you have a limited knowledge, you can start investing on a Mutual Fund or UITF. Mutual Fund is an investment product of asset management company and UITF is the investment product of banks.

For some investment books in the Philippines, I don’t know if there is any (I am an OFW). I think you can use your US books since, investing concept is always the same where ever you are.

Again, I would like to remind you that investing involves risk so you must also assess your risk appetite ( are you a risk averse or with high appetite for risk). Of course high risk investment yields higher compare to conservative investment.
