I read your blog. Its very interesting and educational. Actually I am starting to educate myself regarding financial management and investing. Next month I will start on mutual funds. Can you give advise for insurance also? I am planning to have one. Thanks and more power.
Hi Ely,
Thanks. It is good to hear that you are taking 1 step forward towards your financial freedom.
In selecting insurance, I think big insurance company like Philam and Sunlife will be my choice. (Note that I was not an employee of this insurance companies but I have a good experience in dealing with them.)
Also, thoroughly review the insurance plan that you choose and get rid of the riders that you think that you will not need. If there are items that you don’t understand, Don’t be shy to ask your insurance agent.

This maybe my 5th day acting like a freak when it comes to reading blogs about investing in the Philippines. I am working abroad and i really wanted to start investing for myself and for my future family. I was really enlightened with your “OFW… Do you have a RETIREMENT plan?” because my answer to this was “NO!” i am now planning to get a Philam Life’s Leisure as you have suggested and continue to pay my contributions with SSS. But that doesn’t end here.. please help me decide on Mutual Funds Investment. Is Sun Life Mutual Funds as good as the companies you’ve invested in? on the 4 basic types of Mutual Funds, which is the best? please take considerations on the returns and risk. thank you. please help me.:)
Hi James,
For you question : Is Sun Life Mutual Funds as good as the companies you’ve invested in? My answer is YES.
On the 4 basic types of Mutual Fund, the best is the Equity Fund type.. However, the risk involve on this type of investment is also high. You should know your risk appetite and investment horizon before going into any investment.
Equity type of fund has a high risk, but if you have a high tolerance for risk and an investment horizon of more than 10 years I think it is only wise to invest your money on this fund.
